These days are ours happy and free

I have been super busy recently which has been a nice change but has left little time for blogging.
First, we brought home our new puppy, Bernard.

Second I started working at a Chiropractic office as a Chiropractic assistant. The job is pretty good pay and super easy. I just seldolm have free time. There is no happy medium... you either don't have a job and nothing to do or you have a job and have no free time. So I am currently in the process of trying to balance work and a social life.

Third, Taylor and I appeared as extras in a Ron Howard movie staring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Winona Ryder, and Jennifer Connelly! The movie is called "The Dilemma" and is in theaters next January. There was a trailer for the film recently released inw hich we are pretty sure I can be seen behind Kevin James' head, but the trailer has recently been pulled due to a gay joke that was deemed inappropriate.

Other news, my parents came to visit me last week! It was great fun to have them in my apartment and experiencing a little bit of my new life. My mom and I did some shopping as usual in which I ended up with some super cute decor for the holidays! Also at the end of this month I will be traveling back to Georgia for one of my best and dearest friends, Caleigh Allen's birthday. I am excited to see her because it has been far too long. This time last year she and I were in Disney World. So yeah we won't be in the "Happiest Place On Earth", but at least we will be together.

I think that pretty much sums up what has been going on in my life. Until next time...

Times are a changing.

I haven't posted on this ol thing recently and felt like I needed to make a quick update even if it isn't a full on blog entry. Since my last post I have had quite a bit happen in my life. The loss of my beloved dog of 16 years and the loss of a friend who was stationed in Iraq. These two incidences have set me back from fully settling in here in Chicago. I have been home twice since the move and things feel so temporary. I know in time I will find my niche here but it is taking some time. One great thing to happen since my last post is a new puppy added to our family. I couldn't bare living without a dog in my life. It has been over two months... three months next week since his passing. I get the new puppy on friday and I am so very excited. I loved Chance so very much and think about him everyday. This new little pup will help fill that void but never replace. Both these little guys have and will be very important in my life and I am so excited to start this journey all over again.

Blinded by the Hype

So it's been quite awhile since I have posted on here...but with good reason. A little over a week ago I started my road trip from Atlanta to Chicago to ultimately move in with my boyfriend. It has taken me about a week to get moved in and settled somewhat. All I need now is to find a job which is probably one of the most difficult things to do at this time. But I am staying positive and keeping my fingers crossed.

This past week and a half as I was unpacking my things and trying to make this apartment look like a home while my boyfriend has been at work, I have occupied my time with lots and lots of TV! One wonderful contraption we have that I have never had before is a DVR in which I can record pretty much anything and everything I want to watch. Seriously this is the best thing ever! So with my frequent use of the DVR I have pretty much stayed up to date with all things going on in the world.... well... lets be real, all things pop culture/entertainment.

One big event within the past week was the announcement of the Academy Award Nominations. Most of the nominations were no big surprise, basically the same people we have been seeing at other award shows and whatnot. However, the nominees for Best Picture were quite surprising. The Academy is now nominating 10 feature films in this category which can be quite interesting when perhaps there have not been 10 outstanding films this year. This is why I assume some of the following films were nominated.

Best motion picture of the year

"Avatar" (20th Century Fox)

"The Blind Side" (Warner Bros.)

"District 9" (Sony Pictures Releasing)

"An Education" (Sony Pictures Classics)

"The Hurt Locker" (Summit Entertainment)

"Inglourious Basterds" (The Weinstein Company)

"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" (Lionsgate)

"A Serious Man" (Focus Features)

"Up" (Walt Disney)

"Up in the Air" (Paramount in association with Cold Spring Pictures and DW Studios)

Now I don't profess to be an expert because honestly I haven't seen all of these films, but when I saw that "The Blind Side" was nominated I seriously laughed. Now don't get me wrong, I saw the movie with my mom and thought it was very entertaining and heartwarming for a sports family type movie. But that's all I thought of it. A nice movie to see with your family in theaters around the holidays not "Picture of The Year". There has just been so much hype around this film (and don't get me started on Avatar either!!!) that I wonder why the Academy feels that it is a justified Best Picture nominee when I feel it is not up to par with some of the other nominated films and films nominated in the past. Something may be hyped and popular, but that certainly does not make it great.

Another confusion of mine is the nomination for "Up". Now I loved "Up" and cried every time I saw it. It gave me the warm and fuzzies and made me really appreciate the direction Disney/Pixar animation is going. But my question is...If "Up" is nominated for "Best Picture" and "Best Animated Feature Film" wouldn't that already mean that "Up" is the "Best Animated Feature Film" because it was apparently better than its fellow nominees in that category since it earned a "Best Picture" nomination and none of the others did? Hmmmm?

Well no matter what the deal is, "Inglourious Basterds" should win something.... I mean ANYTHING because I thought it was fantastic.

If those damn blue Avatar people steal the "Inglourious Basterds" Oscar glory, I'm gonna go all Shoshanna on their CGI asses.

Full of Glee...uh not so much.

So this past weekend the SAG awards took place. I am all about some award shows! I love the fashion, the awkward interviews on the red carpet, betting on the winners... the whole shabang! But most of all I LOVE when my favorite people are in attendance and better yet NOMINATED!

A little back story... I have been in love with Jeremy Irons since I was 9 years old. Of course at 9 I was in love with him in this form:

Then later fell in love with this one:

Sooo Jeremy was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries. Last week he lost the Golden Globe of the same category to Kevin Bacon and I figured this week would be a repeat. I mean I didn't even like the Georgia O'Keeffe movie! Buuuut Jeremy is wonderful in anything he does (well minus that Dungeons and Dragons movie, but come on he had a castle in Ireland he had just purchased. A man has got to pay them bills!). Despite not winning it was nice to see Jeremy on the red carpet. He also spoke in the intro which was a surprise!
Notice his FINE son, Max in background!

Jeremy losing was not my disappointment of the night. Here is my dilemma....
I like this show:

I love this show:

Both shows air at the same exact time and have been up for the same awards. Last week Glee took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical. I was ok with this. I would have rather Modern Family because I think it is a better show ultimately but Glee winning was no big deal. I mean, I do like Glee!

This past weekend both were nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. I thought Modern Family had this in the bag.
As you can tell by this photo, I was completely wrong.

I just did not get it! Glee won best comedy ensemble over Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Office, and Curb Your Enthusiasm? Glee is in no way funnier than those shows. I never really considered Glee a comedy. It's quirky and musical, but seldom down right funny. But where does it fit? In a way it is something new and innovative and there really isn't a category for it. I just fear Modern Family will never get its rightful recognition until the hype of Glee calms down. The hype around it is making me resent it. Well, it's either the hype, of the fact that the lead male, Cory Monteith is terribly mediocre in every way. Or it could be my hatred for Lea Michele? Yes, I have pretty much disliked her since she first appeared in Spring Awakening. Something about her has always rubbed me the wrong way. A friend of mine, knowing how much I dislike her, went and took this picture with her back in 2008 to be funny:

Hi Heather! This is for you!

I just think with Glee the novelty will wear off soon and people will see that the show in no way was up to par with the comedies it was nominated with.

One thing I wasn't frustrated with was the fashion of the SAG Awards. Everyone looked great, very few fashion mishaps. Standouts for me were Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard. Gorgeous, perfect, flawless, breathtaking are a few words that come to mind.

The SAG awards were fun....and short which is great because sometimes these award ceremonies drag on a little too long. Now I just have to wait until February for the BIG deal, The Academy Awards. Can't Wait!

Oh and do yourself a favor. If you are not familiar with Modern Family you should educated yourself. Introducing Phil Dumphy, yo!

It starts...

For a couple years now I have been an avid reader of a few blogs. Mainly entertainment or fashion blogs, but blogs none the less. Always in the back of my mind I've thought "I said the exact same thing!" or "I felt the same exact way!". So why not write or... eh type down my own thoughts?
Well for 1. My life really isn't THAT interesting. 2. I am in no way a writer. and 3. Who is going to read what I write?
WHO CARES? I have decided this blog is for me and if no one ever reads it.... I'm fine. This part of my life is the perfect time to blog. I'm moving to Chicago from Atlanta which I'm sure will be a big change. I am currently unemployed (but looking for a job!). I watch A LOT of TV and want to discuss it, but I have come to find out I am currently one of the only people in my group of friends that watches this much TV making it difficult to carry on lengthy conversations on the subject without boring them to death.
I guess this is a suitable intro to my blog?Hmmmm what should you expect from here on out? Probably lots of confusion on where my life is headed and various mentions of my current obsessions whether that be clothes, food, entertainment, etc....
Here's to the start of something new! (yes that is a High School Musical quote because I am 12 years old forever. Get over it!)
